What Happens, Happens, Let It Go and Move On
admin | October 17, 2007Disappointment is a plain fact of life, sometime or another as we go through life we all have to deal with it, in many different aspects of life. However how we deal with it is the most important thing. We should never try to avoid it but face up to it.
When you are faced with disappointment in life, the most important thing to remember is to accept it and get on. Don’t be fooled into giving in to the “what ifs” and “if only”. Feelings and thoughts like this will get you nowhere and will never change the situation however much you wish you could.
How we deal with things when life doesn’t go our way or to plan also says a lot about us and in fact can have an affect on our future. Someone who is able to shrug off disappointment easily and get on with life is more adaptable and so better able to cope with whatever crops up in future. Those who sit and despair and give in or get upset and are unable to shrug off disappointment are setting themselves up for a future of misery and will stumble every time they meet failure or things don’t go their way.
The most important thing to remember when faced with a disappointing situation is to examine the situation carefully. Why did the disappointment occur, could you have done anything to change the outcome?
If the answer to this question is no you couldn’t have changed the outcome then learn that you have to accept it and let it go and move on with life positively. Moving on and being able to let go is the magic word when it comes to dealing with disappointment.
While it is important to let it go you first have to recognize it and deal with it. We all deal with it differently, it can be expressed as anger, through tears or shouting or talking it out with someone. But dealing with it and accepting is the only way to let it go.
Once you have done this then move on. Refocus your attention back onto the positive and get back on track by focusing on your life goals. If it was one of the goals that you were aiming towards that brought about the disappointment then have another go at it. Don’t just give up and think the outcome will be the same; it won’t necessarily be if you remember where you went wrong last time and strive towards thinking positively about the outcome.
Never think of failing and disappointment as losing, even if things went wrong and you were faced with disappointment this time, at least you tried and that’s all that counts. You can only truly fail by giving up and giving in. You should remember the old saying “if at first you don’t succeed then try and try again”.
Just remember it is far easier to give in and give up than to get back on your feet and try again. So when faced with it remember that everyone has to face disappointment sometime in their life, so get over it and carry on.
